I’m writing to you for the first time as Chair to say how thrilled I am to have been appointed Chair of the Accountability Round Table, and to share an update following the recent Planning Meeting.

I’m also pleased to advise that we have appointed Emma Garbutt as Executive Officer of the Accountability Round Table.
Emma will commence shortly and will work, on average, equivalent of two days per week. Her role will be to support coordination and delivery of ART’s work, strengthen our systems and communications, and help us better mobilise the depth of expertise within our membership.

Attached is a short summary of the Planning Meeting outcomes. It captures the shared view of the Board about ART’s purpose and unique role, the priority areas we will focus on over the next two years, and the steps we’re taking to increase our impact.
A clear theme from the Planning Meeting was that ART’s greatest strength lies in its people. Our members bring deep expertise, credibility and independence, and this next phase is about creating clearer pathways for members to contribute to policy development, submissions, advocacy and public interventions.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be:
onboarding the new Executive Officercommencing work on a Strategic Plan
improving how we communicate with members
and building a more structured way for members to offer their expertise and get involved

We’ll be in touch shortly with more detail about opportunities to contribute.

Thank you for your continued support of ART and for the role you play in strengthening accountability and integrity in public life.

Warm regards,
Sophie Torney
