The Accountability Round Table (ART) has appointed existing Board member Robert Redlich AM KC as Chair, following a meeting of the Board held on 23 March 2026.

The appointment follows the resignation from the Board of Chair, Sophie Torney, who announced on 21 March she will be running as a candidate in the 2026 Victorian State Election.

As a former judge of the Court of Appeal and former Commissioner of IBAC, Robert Redlich AM KC brings to the role an unparalleled depth of experience in integrity, governance and the law.

Robert Redlich AM KC,  Chair of the Accountability Round Table, said:

“I want to thank Sophie Torney for her outstanding contribution as Chair.”

“This is a pivotal moment for integrity in Victoria, and nationally.  Last week, the Victorian Parliament voted down reforms that would have allowed IBAC to follow the dollar in the construction industry — reforms supported by the Parliament’s own Integrity and Oversight Committee. These changes are urgently needed, and the Accountability Round Table will continue to press for them. Public officers, whether elected or appointed, are trustees for the people. That principle must be backed by institutions that have the power to act on it.”

Robert Redlich was formerly a Victorian Supreme Court judge and served as a member of the Court of Appeal for 13 years until retiring in 2017. In 2018, he was appointed Commissioner of the Independent Broad Based Anti-Corruption Commission (IBAC), serving until 2022.
