The Missen Award for backbenchers
 (including independents and members of minority parties).

The award winner’s behaviour should be exemplary and reflect the best traditions of political service to the community.

The award winner will, in the relevant period, have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the public interest in the performance of his or her role with
 Honesty, 
Civility 
Independence 
and/or
Political Courage, in one or more of the following areas:

  • Supporting the principles and practice of transparent and accountable government
  • Contributing effectively and constructively to parliamentary debate, committee deliberations and/or policy development in a way that promotes and/or supports good parliamentary practice and the institution of parliament.
  • Pursuing a change in government policy or practice whether generally or in response to a constituency issue or injustice.
  • Protecting peoples’ political and civil rights

 

All nominations should include

The name of the nominee
The name/s and contact details of the nominator/s
A case for nomination of not more than 800 words
The case should address  each of the criteria and, in the case of any that are not applicable to a nominee, the reasons for that fact.
Nominations will be treated as confidential.
The time for Nominations has been extended until 16 August 2013. Those who made nominations on or prior to 6 June 2013 will be able to update them if they wish on and prior to 16 August 2013. The ART intends to present the Awards in the first week of the new 44th Parliament and will post details on this website as soon as possible.
