More about them here The aim of newdemocracy is to provide realistic and innovative alternative models of government that are determined by the people. We will achieve this by engaging ordinary Australians to discuss political reform and by empowering people to have a say in the process. Our specific objectives are:
The Democracy4sale project analyses all political donations made to the NSW divisions and Federal divisions of the major parties, and more recently local government in NSW, and presents this data to the public in a simple website that sorts donations to political parties by industry category. The Democracy4sale project is an initiative of the Greens NSW. "Australians for Political Funding Reform" Democracy Watch is a non-profit, non-partisan, citizens' group committed to achieving sweeping reforms to dramatically curb the excessive influence of 'big interest' money on our elections and government decisions at the federal, state, and local levels. What was once 'an open conversation' between Margo and her readers has become an open conversation between the readers, based on articles written by readers (and from time to time by Margo). It isn't really a blog, since there is no single editorial or authorial voice, and it's rare for two entries in a month to come from the same Webdiarist. Webdiary has a topic area " Defending Democracy" to which Democratic Audit contributes The Australian Centre for Democracy and Justice The Australian Centre for Democracy and Justice recognises the relationship between democracy and justice and actively seeks to address the relative imbalances in the global community and work towards a truly Just and Democratic society through an engagement, mobilisation and interaction with the community. They have a campaign called "Lobbyocracy" Lobbyocracy is a collaborative project where we use wiki-based software to track the donations made to political parties and the policy outcomes of this. We expose the dodgy back room deals and show how money is siphoned through front groups to side step accountability. http://lobbyocracy.org.au Centre for Democratic Institutions CDI was established by the Australian government to support the efforts of new democracies in the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen their political systems. Our core budget is provided by AusAID, Australia’s Agency for International Development, and we are based in the Crawford School of Economics and Government in the College of Asia and the Pacific at The Australian National University in Canberra Whistleblowers Australia Inc. is an association for those who have exposed corruption or any form of malpractice, especially if they were then hindered or abused, and for those who are thinking of exposing it or who wish to support those who are doing so. Electoral Reform Australia is the web site of the Proportional Representation Society of Australia, NSW Branch. Electoral Reform Australia has been created to promote better electoral models in Australia, for government and all other elected bodies. Our goal is to provide information and resources and to encourage a better understanding of electoral systems in Australia. This is a wiki on the subject of Electoral Reform Is an Australian independent and non profit think tank of and for young people. It develops public policy, provides a platform for ideas and educates young people. It also develops high-impact policy by young people focused on the long term across the entire policy spectrum, not just on youth related issues. Includes policies on electoral reform for young people. National Office in Melbourne, Victoria. Five state teams in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth. Its "About" page says "australianpolitics.com is the work of Malcolm Farnsworth. I am a (possibly) former secondary school teacher in Melbourne. It began as a site for students of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Political Studies course and originally appeared as VCEpolitics.com in 1995. Over time, the site has developed into an eclectic archive of documents, speeches, data and assorted information, including audio files of significant events. In recent years, few updates were made to the site but with the advent of the 2010 Federal Election I am returning to regular maintenance. The “old” site remains in its original form, using static pages. Some of these are being migrated to the WordPress format over time." This site includes information on various ideas for Parliamentary reform. The Idea The Government decided myschools.edu.au was a good idea. A data set with a singular purpose to rate schools individually and for the purpose of comparison around a one dimensional view of how that school operated. At the time we (MyPoltician) felt that was a limited view and not well rounded, and would give the great unwashed masses information that would not be used properly. Thus the concept for my politician was invented. Why could not your local politician be rated in a similar method. The premise is that people submit questions to be put to candidates, others vote on the questions, and the candidates respond to the highest voted questions. How does OurSay work? First, post a question. Ask the questions you want asked about the issues you want to tackle. If you’re not sure what to ask, browse other questions and vote for them. ELECTION 2010is a new website dedicated to monitoring the content of election leaflets. The site encourages people to upload pictures of election leaflets circulated in their electorate. Another way of keeping Parliament and Parliamentarians honest. http://www.electionleaflets.org.au/
electionWIRE will feature video news, interviews, opinions and debate from a team of newly recruited and trained Vibewire Youthscape reporters The project, initiated by media group Vibewire Youth, is led by 14 young aspiring journalists. 15-17 year old school students learn about the election as part of civics teaching and then cast their vote in an online simulated federal election ballot from August 9 to 12.
