AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS SUMMARY PAGE

The Australian Government is increasingly using the internet to provide a channel for public consultations on specific topics. These consultations link to agency websites where the relevant agency has published a discussion or consultation paper, which can be responded to via the internet or by postal mail. These public consultations are targeted to anyone who is interested as well as experts, peak bodies and interest groups. Using the internet for public consultations enables government to engage more directly and widely with the public in the development of citizen-centered policy and programs.

ELECTION COMMITMENT COSTINGS

The Charter of Budget Honesty Act 1998 outlines arrangements under which the Secretaries to the Treasury and the Department of Finance and Deregulation may be requested to cost Government and Opposition election commitments during the caretaker period for a general election. The Charter of Budget Honesty Costing Election Commitments guidelines, issued on 11 June 2010, outline the protocols and timeframes for the costing of election commitments.

In accordance with the guidelines, all costing requests received from the Government and Opposition, completed costings and related information are posted to this site.
